U12 Development Teams

2024 U12 Development Teams

The purpose of these squads is to develop the players skills and create an enjoyable experience.

We plan to train the players in two squads (Boys and Girls) and within these groups players will be coached at an age and skill appropriate level using many of the Associations best coaches and players.

Players join this program to improve their hockey, play different competitors, make new friendships, develop team & social skills, confidence building & for selection at higher levels.

Each year we send team/s to compete in carnivals (refer calendar below) culminating in Kim Small Shield & Michael York Cup in Tamworth.

From the squads we will select players/teams to compete in the carnivals that we believe are the best combination of players to develop and improve the experience. We also ensure the teams are entered in the correct division/s to ensure competitiveness. All regions throughout NSW send teams to carnivals & its a wonderful atmosphere for all players.

We will continue the succesful initiative of the U12 Academy. This provides quality coaching opportunities for players not selected in teams. This improves skills and confidence with a view to helping players continue to play representative hockey in the future.

Families are responsible for their own travel and accomodation at the Carnivals so please make arragements as per the calendars below.

Calendar

Boys and Girls Calendar 2024 (Updated 21/03)

The carnivals are not all same format, some are played across a half field & others on full field. Obviously this will impact how we select team sizes.
We will have:

  • 12G    3 half-field teams, combined to 2 for full-field carnivals
  • 12B     2 half-field teams, combined to one for full-field carnivals

There are player fees involved and accommodation/transport is players responsibility for all U12 carnivals (see below).

Research has shown that small-sided, modified field games provide a greater hockey experience for all levels of participation, with a focus on fun, participation and skill development. The players get more touches of the ball, put in more passes and have more shots on goal. Interestingly it also shows they run further!

Attached is information highlighting the benefits of small sided games.

Additional Information

The player fees are being finalised, they will be in the vicinity of:

U12G - $365

Accommodation & Transport
For the U12 age group each player/family will be responsible for any accommodation & transport requirements.

Uniform
All new players will recieve a playing top to be returned at the end of the representitive season. Players will require blue playing shorts/skort, blue socks and the alternative yellow association socks.
Academy players (not selected for a team) do not require a uniform.

Team Managers needed
We will need a manager for each team and would greatly appreciate anyone interested to contact me.
The management duties for these teams is relatively light as there are no accommodation & meal logistics.
The main responsibilities will be the distribution of info & taking care of team requirements at the actual competition.

Umpires Needed
We are required to nominate an umpire for each team attending carnivals. Umpires receive payment for their duties.
If there is anyone interested in umpiring (sibling, parent, friend) we would like to hear from you!
